the little prince
“One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.”

Summer of 2007 I learned about this story, and was told I had to read it. I tend to feel a sense of guilt and panic when I find out there is a book everyone seems to know about and love, but that I have never heard of. I don’t know how I skipped over it as a kid. Anyways, I finally read The Little Prince back in October/November 2008 and enjoyed it a lot. Both humorous and sad, I found a lot of truth in it.

“I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974.”

I never finished this book, but read most of it back in July 2008. I kept thinking it was going to get interesting, but tended to quickly get bored. I think all in all, the story is good, interesting, even important; the prose wasn’t engaging to me. There were moments of beauty, but not enough to hold my attention through the entire story. I still plan to finish it someday though.

“I am a better person when I have less on my plate.” -Elizabeth Gilbert

My first post-graduation non-required-reading book. It was over a year ago (June 2008), so I’m not exactly sure what I want to say about it. It’s always inspiring to read and hear about people who follow their instincts and chase their own path in life. I suppose that’s what I remember most about this book. That, and Elizabeth’s journey for the best pizza in Italy….
